Here is what I've tried to resolve it: 1) Ran the game as administrator (as well as various compatibility modes) 2) Checked registry for old homm3 key (although I'm fairly certain I've never had it on this comp) 3) Downloaded and used Heroes3HD.exe. I am trying to get HOMM II to run on my Surface Pro 2, but I'm running into problems. The DOSBOX version runs perfectly with a mouse and keyboard, and has the music I love. I can't, however, get it to work right with my touch screen. The Windows version is the opposite. It seems to still have the midi music, and I can't get it to run in HoMM 3 Complete: how do I play it without needing the cd? Just installed HoMM3 again after finding it amongst my box of childhood video games. I'd like to know how to start and be able to play HoMM3 without the play disc. My solution is to enter the link properties, go to the compatibility tab and click the "run as admin" check box. Go to Edit>Options, and under Games scroll down to Heroes of Might and Magic II. Select Browse on the lower right hand of the window, find the Heroes II game folder, and choose the HEROES2W.exe file.
